Hur mår doktoranden? – A seminar on the work environment of Ph.d students

Studies of the psychosocial working environment of PhD-students show again and again that there are serious shortcomings in this area. Lack of sleep, overtime and an inability to think about anything besides the thesis are some of the problems highlighted in the latest survey “Hur mår doktoranden?” conducted by Fackförbundet ST and Sveriges förenade studentkårers doktorandkommitté (SFS-DK).

The ambiguity of being both a student and an employee sometimes makes it harder to raise the issue of how the work makes you feel and very few PhD-students seem to know who is actually responsible for their working environment.

The report also contains 13 proposals for improving the working environment of PhD-students.

Stockholm university is one of the universities covered by the study and Fackförbundet ST, SFS-DK and Stockholms universitets studentkår and Centrala doktorandrådet are now arranging an online seminar to present the main results of the report as well as the suggested measures to be taken to improve the situation. Special emphasis will be placed on the results from the PhD-students at Stockholm university.
